Goodbye Customer Service
Yesterday marked the sudden end of my customer service days at my employer’s. It was bittersweet as I told regulars that I was going to “the back to process damaged items to send back to their vendors.” Most didn’t understand; I’m not sure I understand quite yet what I’m getting into either. What I do know is that my regular that I had only seen once since the move came in with some returns last night. When I told him I was leaving customer service he asked, “Did they finally make you a manager?” I’m fairly certain I would not want to be a manager though this is not to say that I would not have a head full of plans sort of manager.
Since moving to the new store, there had been a marked lower rate in the number of “bad customers” who cursed at me or stole. It was rampant at the old store. Or maybe since my hours were cut and there was generally two of us there, it was distrubited more evenly among the new hirees. I’m glad I am going to Claims because I feel that my energy will be of better use back there. It’s a mess back there of staggering heights that can never get done. My supervisior Susun said I’ll be angry at the things taken back that we cannot get credit for. I may get aggravated, but I know from 20 months of experience that the service desk has very little control of what we can do against management and supervisiors who don’t see the bottom line. However, I hope that by being in Claims, I will be able to move mountains, surely, day by day.
I left a note taped to the wall thanking everyone for their help and guidance. I took the markers my coworker had bought me for the calendar. The calendar is gone and so am I.
