I’m less tired this evening. Today I worked by myself all day. Spent my first hour cleaning up the mess that had accumulated from 3pm to 6am in my open work area. I then took the UPC-less items to the return counter where the department bins are and spent time making labels that said “Needs UPC.” So far, only one sales floor associate honored my request and got the UPCs I needed and brought them to me. Other people keep trying to return them to me but like I told them, I can’t do anything with them w/o the UPC. >_> I then spent the second hour learning how to use a pallet jack and wrapping a pallet. For the rest of the day, I attended various meetings and slowly worked through the bins. The lady whose station is across from mine keeps throwing her junk in my area. It’s going to drive me nuts eventually.

One lady called and had a massive hissy fit. She had ordered something to be shipped to our store and UPS had given her a delivery confirmation that it had been delivered. However, we had not processed the package (we’re a huge store) so it was not ready for her to pick up. I tried to explain that as stated in her user agreement, she would be notified when the package was ready. She flipped out all over me, the lady working the phones, and the store manager. She kept hanging up and calling back then hanging up again. She then called higher up the chain and lied about what my store manager had said to her. It was very frustrating. I decided to keep a low profile in case my store manager was out for blood.

Did get some creative time in at work. Started a sketch of Halide and wrote the beginning of a short story. My coworkers wanted to comisserate over our workplace though, so I put my things away for later.

The best part about today is that I’m still able to keep my eyes open though its 7pm. For the last two days, I’ve been asleep by 6:30. Hopefully in a few more days, I won’t be tired at all.

One Response to Evening Check-In

It sounds like claims is alot more physical than your previous position. Pallet jacks and pallets are alot bigger and heavier than buggies and bins.
Why do our co-workers always try to pass the buck when it comes to dealing with their stuff? On Christmas Eve, I was in toys, and the sporting goods guy handed me a pass around buggy. He said take your stuff and pass it along. I had that buggy for 2 more hours putting stuff up because no one would take it.
It must be difficult to change a schedule that you’ve kept for so long, but the money comes with a price eh?
