Busy with Graduate Assistantship
I have been updating as much of late because I’ve been pretty busy between school work and my assistantship. Then today I was sending out (what felt like) dozens of emails to various teachers, the county district’s school librarian head, librarians, AND sent in my application for reference internship. I was so wiped out that I came home and slept for a few hours. So onto progress on the two websites I’m doing for my job!
LIS department’s website redesign: Yesterday I spent the day making a site map since the old one cannot be found. I found so many broken links, outdated information, and poor structural design that I went off into a rant. My specialty is not websites, but even I know to be consistent in how you plan a website. I sent a frank email saying basically saying that we can slip on a new cover to try to cover up these issues but the website will HAVE to be redone from the ground up. Today I made the first steps towards this in getting some updated information from one professor and sending it on to the website’s coder so she can update his pages.
Other website project: I’m slowly making progress with learning Drupal. Today I finally managed to get beautiful and clean URLs working on my test website. It’s kinda sucky that you have to go through so much effort to get what is a basic function with WordPress. However, Drupal is suppose to be coming out with version 7 pretty soon so hopefully this will be corrected before I start building the real website. I also began looking at themes but first I need to figure out how to create a database which users can upload information to and freely search.
