Sick Day No. 2
I’m so well-trained from retail that I can’t take a day off work unless I’m crawling on my belly. On the other hand, I managed to make some progress at work:
- Realized that I couldn’t teach a class on PhotoStory 3 because our patrons need job help more than a silly video workshop.
- Learned how to adjust the computer’s Microsoft Steady State so we could update them.
- Side note: we’re running an experiment on one computer by removing IE off the desktop (still visible in the Start menu) and labeled Firefox as “Internet” to see if we can wean people off their IE addiction.
- I figured out how to remove iMovie videos from an iPad2 and move them onto a Mac then upload to Vimeo. I documented this on the wiki.
- I’m talking with my coworker about the best way to organize the UX department’s information as we work on the upcoming website changes (wiki?).
- Lots of emails. I’m trying to hook up a volunteer web designer with a local non-profit to redo their site.
- Had a short chat with my boss this morning. He’s the one who tried to convince me to go home. I felt right about my decision to stay when I saw that I could help out the Children’s Library with their iPad issue.
- Learned how to print double-sided Publisher pages (Duplex: top-top in the Printer Properties settings).
- Am tracking down a problem in getting some ebooks uploaded into the catalog. A+ to my boss for having already created a Downloadable ebook icon in his SOPAC.
- Tomorrow I will make a decision and send in the email to OverDrive to fix up our website with them.
- Watched some video tutorials on grouping in Views (not nearly as cool as I thought it’d be) and Rules.
- Still poking at my project to create a home-grown events registration since current solutions don’t meet all of our needs. Today I added a field so people could select how they want to be notified about an event. As well, I wrote rules to make sure they receive the message the way they specified (email, text, or both).
- Also had my first “real” conversation with someone on Twitter via the library’s account. Another library recommended us as a responsive Twitter account, so I was grateful that I happened to see the person whom they were responding to. I got to promote Friday Reads and explain how we use the National Book Festival as a way to bring authors to our library.
I came home and took some cold medicine which knocked me off my feet. I had told Thomas that I was starving, but was unable to get up to eat when dinner was ready. When I woke up hours later, I discovered he had waited to eat so that we could eat together. Aww.
