The post of this title is in reference to every department being touched by one of the computer lab people being out this week as she celebrates good things. Today was actually the third day of my seven day week since I’m working Sunday through Friday. A brief run down on today’s tasks:
Processed a [...]
Nothing much to report from Sunday’s four hour shift. I got to talk to the co-manager for the adult tech class and we discussed the results from the first class. Other than that, things were fairly calm/usual paced until half an hour to close. Suddenly there was a standing line and people demanding to know [...]
I recently heard of Codecademy but did not get a chance to try it out until yesterday while watching the computer labs at work. What is it? Codecademy teaches you some basic Javascript functions. On the front of their website, you have the option to either click the green Get Started button or just [...]
So far I’ve been very fortunate that the weekend shifts haven’t been too hard. Last weekend I tried to fight the current and concentrate on my own work, but today I decided to give in and work on the nitpicky semi-mindless tasks that I could do while watching two computer rooms. This primarly meant organizing [...]
I’m two days behind schedule writing this. The main reason would be that I came home and devoured Goliath by Scott Westerfeld. Amaaaazing book. I couldn’t put it down and I felt pretty satisfied at the ending. I hope he continues the series.
Thursday was a bit of a mixed bag. I have [...]
I came home and immediately collapsed into bed to focus on finishing Behemoth by Scott Westerfeld tonight. It was sooooo good! I’d like to blog a bit about it but don’t want to spoil someone on accident.
I haven’t been getting to bed on time (and it’s past bedtime right now) so another round [...]
It is seriously past my bedtime again so I’ll default to bullet points:
Sought out training on how to check out items in the computer lab Went to the Children’s Library to look for someone Added some shortcuts to the reference computer Discussed digital signage with my departing coworker who also told me that she [...]
This photo is the first and last thing I have seen every day since March 8th. I took it with my cellphone the morning I left for WebWise after waking to discover Dollbaby sleeping on my pillow. Before I got out of bed that morning, I made this photo the background of my [...]
I was made aware of the Boston Globe’s new website thanks to a Gawker article. To put it simply, the content adjusts itself in response to the width of the browser. This function is called responsive design as explained in an A List Apart article.

I did not blog about Saturday and Sunday’s shifts since I was working in the computer lab. I discovered that the time is long, I am kept running to the point where I cannot do my own work, and the copier-printers hate me. Only one person spoke of 9/11 to me and I only saw [...]
