What I do in my free time

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

When I’m not working on freelance projects, reading, or expirementing with new things, I indulge in my passion: Link. I won’t post a link here for the time being on what that is, but I’ve been working on it since 2003 with Shiver. Between the two of us we have thousands of drawings and 120+ original characters and I’ve penned over 300 short stories for Link.

Today I’ve decided to share a bit from my latest written piece.

Problem with AIM Chat Logging

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

I found out last night that AIM verision 6.8.12.4 has been deleting my AIM conversations despite the “chat logging” option being checked. I’m furious. I spent last night trying to fix the problem with no luck and today posted on a few more communities hoping for insight. On the other hand, I’ve downloaded a program call “IM-History” which is suppose to help keep a better track record of my AIM conversations with Shiver. We’ve been storybuilding these last three weeks and all those conversations are gone. Ugh.

My DVD burner is also dead, so I ordered a new one off Newegg. It should be here by this weekend so I can get to making back-up copies again. My new back-up plan for the important stuff will be to keep a copy on two hard drives and then over on my server. Then once every couple of weeks, burn a physical copy. I’m tired of my back-up devices failing.

Old layout is up again on Godaisies

Friday, September 26th, 2008

It took a bit of digging but I found my senior project portfolio flash website. I’ve decided to stick it up over at the main website, Godaisies. It’s mostly filler and admittingly imperfect. At least you can see a few of my projectst though!

I managed to lose the original .fla file that I finished the project up with, so I can’t go back and correct it, but I’ve got a bunch of previous versions. When I have time this weekend I’ll try to make it look a little nicer, so in the meantime, forgive the none too elegant appearance.

Thanks!

Politics

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Today I’m all wrapped up in politics. I did not have this love in 9th grade, but back in 2004 it came out in me with a raging passion. I’m trying to keep it under wraps this year, but it looks like I’m falling behind already in that promise to not get all worked up.

In other news, I’m reading a book on Adobe Illustrator and one on website creation from Friends of Ed publishing.

Meta Tagged Godaisies

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

I went in and added some meta tags to the main website, Godaisies. I decided to add them after having looked over my Google Webmaster Tools information. Hopefully with that and finally renaming the Head title I’ll get higher in page ranks for my website. :-)

Web Designer Wall Lust

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Shiver sent me the link to Web Designer Wall which has been consuming me for a couple hours now. I’m really enjoying her tutorials and hope to implement them soon on this website.

Library Jobs

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

I’ve spent the morning and afternoon talking with librarians across the globe about their jobs. Occasionally it is discouraging, but more often than not, the librarians stress what a rewarding job it is. One fine lady squashed any interest in working in book publishing as an editor after she pointed out how status driven the industry is. I will not lie here and say that I’ve been popular. More often than not, I’m seen as the quiet one and I would never be voted for any office despite my qualifications for the position.

I am not producing any quantifible freelance work at the moment, but am trying to carve out a future. The path ahead is covered in branches and bends out of sight, but I am hoping that any day now, someone will light the way and I can see where my footsteps are leading me.

Trying to find my perfect job

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

I found the O*NET website which is to help one find their perfect job. So far no luck. I took the skill part and got that I should be a motor boat operator, lol!

Yesterday I was fantisizing a little about what I want to do in life. I had some image of exploring places in far-off European cities, notebook in hand, camera at the ready, pushing my glasses up my nose as I enter a building. I’m not sure what sort of job this would be! If you have any idea, let me know in the comments, please. Meanwhile, here are more ideas if you can piece something out of them, I’d really appreciate it:

Myers-Briggs Results

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

I took the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers-Briggs test for the career counselor at UNCA. My Myers-Briggs results lists me as an INFJ (Introverted iNution Feeling Judging).

What I took particular interest in were my potential strengths:

  • Imagination
  • Sense of Purpose
  • Creativity
  • Ability to get things organized
  • Can develop human resources

I’m in awe of just how much this is me.
