It is absolute crap that anyone thinks BP shouldn’t be taking responsibility for not only cleaning up the oil spill but also take care of the wildlife they’ve disturbed as well as the people whose livelihoods they have ruined.
I live-blogged President Obama’s State of the Union Address (video or transcript) in a casual way with my friend. However, here were my main favorite and surprising points:
Ending “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”
Bringing home the troops from Iraq by the end of August
Ending tax breaks to companies that send our jobs overseas (NAFTA devastated NC when our jobs slipped away to foreign shores)
Graduates wouldn’t pay more than 10% of their income towards their school loans per year
The smackdown on health care reform being dragged out. We NEED health care in this country!
Vice President Joe Biden’s mother passed away today. In reading the story at abcnews, I came across the following quote:
“My mom taught her children, all the children who flocked to our house, that you’re defined by your sense of honor and you’re redeemed by your loyalty,” he said. “Failure at some point in your life is inevitable, but giving up is unforgivable.”
The story made me cry. I remember seeing his tiny little mother on stage on Election Night and I knew she was so proud of her son. I only wish Obama’s grandmother would have seen him too. Either ways, I believe in many ways, a man’s relationship with his mother showcases his true character (aside from if the mother is completely-off-her-rocker). Mrs. Biden taught her children well.
I’ll end this with my twofavorite Joe Biden videos.
I realized today that my new position is the happiest I’ve been at a job. No one is yelling at me, I’m left alone, I work mostly alone, I sort things, I process things. It’s good. It’s calming. The best part is that the day flies by. I don’t ever go to lunch early. I usually take it at the last possible moment because I get so involved in my work. My coworkers come by and express pity for me, but then tell me how great Claims is looking. Yeah, that’s my handiwork right there. I’m away from the public eye, management doesn’t bother me, I work away resilently processing. There is also the increase in hours and pay rise. On the other hand, I’m still worn out when I get home.
It’s great.
Then on Tuesday, it will be the second time since 9/11 that I’ll be proud of my country. The first was this past election day. I plan to sit in front of the TV on my lunch break and sob my way through the inauguration. It’s looking to be a pretty good year.
